Project Overview

WK Design Architects is a small architecture firm based in Cockermouth specialising in residential design.

The company directors, Cal and Paul, asked me to look at their logo and brand design, after a previous design hire proved incompatible.

The brief was to replace their DIY logo with a contemporary new logo and visual identity that would stand out from the competition and appeal to their client base, and design and build a new website to replace their existing temporary landing page and showcase their portfolio of work.

Project Approach

As part of our discovery session we talked through the ways in which their clients gathered architectural inspiration for their new-build, extension and home renovation projects. With apps like Pinterest, tv shows like Grand Designs and home interior magazines being some of the most likely sources of inspiration.

This proved to be a great jumping off point for the brand development process, and the concept behind the re-brand came to be inspired by the kind of architectural inspirations and influences that their clients were seeing on a daily basis and using as inspiration for their home design, extension and renovation projects.

Taking inspiration from the editorial layouts of interior design and home building magazines, such as Grand Designs, Home Living etc, I created a fresh, bright, colourful and engaging, and comfortingly familiar website design inspired by the editorial layouts of these magazines. Making WK Design Architects feel altogether more approachable and attainable than the stereotypically minimal corporate aesthetic that many architectural design websites aspire to.

Project Results

The result: a bright, contemporary, friendly, colourful and engaging brand design for a creative and approachable architectural firm.

Unfortunately the clients weren’t able to proceed with the website build at this time, however the brand design project did deliver a suite of business stationery, including: business cards, compliments slips, email signatures, construction site signage, a report cover design and a set of branded drawing sheet templates for the company directors to start working with.
